Affordable Books, Endless Adventures

My Story Scout is a nonprofit organization founded to address the growing disparity between young readers and access to high-quality literature. We believe that equity in reading cannot be achieved until books are financially accessible to all, which is why we focus on delivering affordable, curated selections of used books. Our collection—comprising at least 80% of our store—sourced through publisher overstock and strong community partnerships, ensures that only books in very good or excellent condition reach our shelves.

As a nonprofit, we reject the one-size-fits-all approach of big-box retailers. Instead, we provide personalized recommendations through doctoral-level specialists and a unique, AI-driven search algorithm grounded in the latest educational research on reading. Our recommendations are free of charge and tailored to each reader’s unique qualities, needs, and preferences.

In addition to our accessible online store, we bring books directly to communities through pop-up shops and unique school book fairs. At My Story Scout, we are committed to making reading both affordable and enriching for every young mind.

Get to Know the Founder

With a passion for both books and child development, I bring a unique blend of expertise and heart to My Story Scout. Holding a PhD in psychology, with formal fellowships at Harvard University and Mayo Clinic, I’ve spent over a decade working in child and adolescent psychology across the globe, from Germany to Kenya. My background as a clinical research scientist and educator informs every book recommendation, ensuring it supports each child’s unique developmental needs. But more than credentials, it’s my love for connecting young readers with stories that inspire and empower them that drives me. My Story Scout is the culmination of years of professional experience and a deep belief in the transformative power of reading—offering affordable, high-quality books to help every child discover their own story.
