What's The Story?

Isabella, an eleven-year-old girl, finds herself constantly switching between two worlds due to her parents' divorce. Her father is Black, her mother is white, and she spends alternate weeks with each parent, leading to feelings of being divided not just physically, but also in terms of her racial identity. At her father's house, she lives with his girlfriend, Anastasia, and her son, Darren, in a predominantly white, affluent neighborhood. At her mother's house, she resides with her mom's boyfriend, John-Mark, in a more modest setting. As Isabella prepares for a significant piano recital, she confronts challenges related to her blended family, racial identity, and societal perceptions. A pivotal event occurs when Isabella and Darren are stopped by the police, leading to a tragic misunderstanding that forces Isabella and her family to confront issues of race and justice.
